The Strongest of Light Chemical Peels – “VI Peel” Review

VI Peel Application

You might think that because I am the Director of Marketing at The Skin Center, I’m used to (or have even done) all the different treatments. Not so! Just like so many of our clients, I too, am curious about which products, treatments and services are right for me.

Being a freckly-faced red-head, I have lived my life with a not-so-clear-complexion. And on top of that, I’ve had my fair share of sunburn and hormonal acne (really!?) So when the marketing team and I started talking about the benefits of a Read more

TATTOO FOR LOVE? Laser for Removal

Facial TattooFlowers? Chocolate? Romantic dinner for two? Tired of all that? For something new, how about a facial tattoo?

Yes, Valentine’s Day is around the corner. But really. Is this what it takes to prove one’s loyalty these days?

Perhaps love really is blind.

But we’d all have to be visually impaired to miss this declaration of affection.

Images of this Russian girl, Lesya, have recently flooded the internet. Just 24 hours after their first date, this beautiful 18-year-old let her new boyfriend (now fiancé), Rouslan, tattoo his name across her face in 5-inch Gothic script lettering.

Cosmetic Surgeon, Dominic A. Brandy, MDBy Dominic A. Brandy, MD

Over the last 30 years, thousands of Pittsburgh women have sat in my office, looking for a change.  As a cosmetic surgeon, I have spent countless hours talking with them, listening to their concerns about their face, their neck, their body, their skin.  I know what many of you are thinking — those who seek the services of a cosmetic surgeon do so out of vanity.  However, in my experience this is simply not true.  It is the stereotypes of those who choose cosmetic surgery procedures that are often played out in the media, which on the one hand chronicles every perceived physical flaw or change to a celebrity’s appearance, and on the other bemoans society’s fixation with youth and beauty. LIP LINES? Prevention & Treatment

lip linesI’ve only just started to notice them.  Tiny, soldier-like lines, evenly spaced, along my upper lip. So feathery and fine at this point that you have to look really close to see them. But they are there. No doubt. The dreaded lip lines.

Like all the women on my mother’s side of the family, I am not blessed with full lips.  Adding to this genetic unfairness is the tendency to develop pronounced vertical lines above the top lip after a certain age. The kind that welcome lipstick leak, and become even more visible should you make the mistake of layering concealer or foundation to cover them.

Would You Like BOTOX® Cosmetic With That?

botoxYou’re at your dentist. Your exam is done, and you’re congratulating yourself for actually keeping your appointment and perhaps even for your commitment to flossing.  Your dentist wheels his stool around to face you, but instead of, “You’re good to go. See you in six months,” he says, “You know, you would benefit from Botox. We do that now.”

BB Creams: Makeup or Magic?

BB CreamsBB creams, also commonly known as “beauty balms” or “blemish balms” have taken the beauty scene by storm lately. We’ve seen them everywhere―in magazines and beauty aisles― by many brand names and price points. In a very short time, BB creams have become one of the biggest skin care hits of the year. Here’s why:

As New Beauty magazine postulates, “If a high-coverage SPF, tinted moisturizer and foundation had a baby, it would be a BB cream.” BB creams offer the best of a moisturizer, a primer, a foundation and a sunblock all in one product. Some formulas even offer broad spectrum UVA/UVB sun protection and serious anti-aging properties. Read more
