I’ve only just started to notice them. Tiny, soldier-like lines, evenly spaced, along my upper lip. So feathery and fine at this point that you have to look really close to see them. But they are there. No doubt. The dreaded lip lines.
Like all the women on my mother’s side of the family, I am not blessed with full lips. Adding to this genetic unfairness is the tendency to develop pronounced vertical lines above the top lip after a certain age. The kind that welcome lipstick leak, and become even more visible should you make the mistake of layering concealer or foundation to cover them.
You’re at your dentist. Your exam is done, and you’re congratulating yourself for actually keeping your appointment and perhaps even for your commitment to flossing. Your dentist wheels his stool around to face you, but instead of, “You’re good to go. See you in six months,” he says, “You know, you would benefit from Botox. We do that now.”
