botoxWe do! As one of the largest national providers of BOTOX ® Cosmetic, The Skin Center brings you the planet’s most beloved wrinkle relaxer from the one and only legitmate source, Allergan®.

Caveat emptor! Not all “Botox” is created equal.

Botox users beware! In a recent depiction of “you get what you pay for,” we learned that more than 350 US medical practices just received warning letters from the FDA about where they were buying their supplies of Botox.

Why? The FDA discovered that these practices were obtaining their supplies from foreign or unlicensed suppliers—and NOT Read more

Dermal Fillers Restore Youthful Curves by Rebuilding Body’s Natural Collagen

Sculptra Injection, The Skin Center Medical Spa, Pittsburgh, PAStrange things happen as your body ages. Bits that were full go flat, and vice versa.  For the first time in my life, I have cheekbones, not because I’ve lost weight, but because everything seems to be shifting.  Downward.  Surprisingly, given what seems like a lifetime of using makeup to create contours in my round face, I don’t like what I’m seeing.  It just doesn’t fit.

What is collagen?

If you’re over 40 and have noticed a loss of volume in your face, you have your collagen – or the depletion thereof – to thank.  Collagen is a fibrous protein that provides an underlying framework to our skin.  As we age, we lose collagen, and as this network of supporting fibers breaks down, our skin loses fullness and elasticity.

Nora Ephron Did Not Need to Feel Bad About Her Neck

QuickLift

Janet, Age 60
Actual QuickLift Patient

Every so often I read a book about age, and whoever’s writing it says it’s great to be old. It’s great to be wise and sage and mellow; it’s great to be at the point where you understand just what matters in life. I can’t stand people who say things like this. What can they be thinking? Don’t they have necks?

—from “I Feel Bad About My Neck,” by Nora Ephron

Nora Ephron, a prolific journalist, screenwriter, producer and novelist whose film work included “When Harry Met Sally,” “Sleepless in Seattle,” “You’ve got Mail,” “Silkwood” and “Heartburn,” had a gift for writing wickedly funny, and honest, prose. Read more

LIP LINES? Prevention & Treatment

lip linesI’ve only just started to notice them.  Tiny, soldier-like lines, evenly spaced, along my upper lip. So feathery and fine at this point that you have to look really close to see them. But they are there. No doubt. The dreaded lip lines.

Like all the women on my mother’s side of the family, I am not blessed with full lips.  Adding to this genetic unfairness is the tendency to develop pronounced vertical lines above the top lip after a certain age. The kind that welcome lipstick leak, and become even more visible should you make the mistake of layering concealer or foundation to cover them.

botoxYou’re at your dentist. Your exam is done, and you’re congratulating yourself for actually keeping your appointment and perhaps even for your commitment to flossing.  Your dentist wheels his stool around to face you, but instead of, “You’re good to go. See you in six months,” he says, “You know, you would benefit from Botox. We do that now.”

And second, gone are the days of nips, tucks and injections in shhhh…secret.

Now Evaluating XEOMIN®—The Latest Wrinkle Remedy

Only wanting to deliver the best products to our clients, The Skin Center Medical Spa is evaluating the effectiveness of XEOMIN®, the latest wrinkle-reducing treatment to receive FDA approval.  As the largest provider of injectable wrinkle treatments in the Tri-State Area, we have been given a preview quantity to sample prior to the market-wide launch in March.  And here’s what we’ve learned so far…

Xeomin (pronounced ‘ZEE-oh-min’) is gaining the attention of beauty experts everywhere— for the treatment of crow’s feet, forehead creases, frown lines (or glabellar lines) between the eyebrows. Following the grand success of Botox® Cosmetic and Dysport®, Xeomin is the third muscular neurotoxin available in the United States to fight unwanted wrinkles. And with more and more women beginning preventative wrinkle treatment injections as early as their twenties, it naturally follows that there will be more “tox-type” treatment options available to consumers.
