What is a treatment like? Approximately 30 minutes prior to your treatment, a topical anesthetic will be applied to minimize discomfort. During the treatment, our CoolTouch III specialist will hold a computer-controlled hand piece that will emit a cryogen mist to protect and cool the skin while gentle pulses of laser energy penetrate the skin and stimulate collagen. Most patients feel a series of warm sensations and may see a flushing of the skin for a short period of time following treatment. Afterwards, you may apply makeup and resume regular daily activities. CoolTouch III treatments are relatively quick. Most treatments take 30 to 60 minutes depending on the area treated.

What will my recovery be like? CoolTouch III Skin Rejuvenation is so gentle, there is no recovery period. Some individuals may experience slight facial flushing, which gradually subsides within an hour or so.

How many treatments will I need? Clinical studies suggest that at least three treatments are needed to stimulate new collagen growth. At The Skin Center, we recommend four to six treatments for the best result. Most individuals begin to see improvement in skin texture after the second or third visit. Treatments are normally spaced three to four weeks apart and are often combined with microdermabrasion treatments, which are included in our package pricing.

If you are experiencing loose or sagging skin, you may be a candidate for the Thermage Non-Surgical Facelift, which is designed to tighten skin using nonlaser technology. Like the CoolTouch III, there is no "downtime" associated with treatment.

Are there any alternatives to the CoolTouch III treatment? The CoolTouch III is the treatment of choice for individuals who want to improve skin texture but don't want any "downtime". The treatment bypasses the epidermis and penetrates the fibroblasts in the dermal layer to stimulate collagen production. The CoolTouch III treatment is very sophisticated and at this time, there is nothing else like it. Other wrinkle treatments do exist. These include chemical peels and laser skin resurfacing, both of which involve varying degrees of downtime. These techniques are referred to as ablative techniques, which can be more invasive, involving the epidermal and dermal layers of the skin. The results of these treatments, however, can be quite dramatic. Botox® and Injectable Fillers are also options for individuals with isolated wrinkles or creases on the face. The Thermage Facelift is an option for individuals who are experiencing loose or sagging skin as opposed to fine lines and wrinkles. There is no downtime associated with this treatment.
