The Fraxel laser body treatment:
Fraxel Laser Skin Treatment for the Body
Fraxel laser skin treatments for the body targets aging skin and sun damaged skin by zeroing in on the damaged tissue. The Fraxel Dual 1550 laser creates microscopic columns far below the surface of the skin. Each column penetrates deep into the skin eliminating the damaged skin through the body’s own healing power.
As the body heals the microscopic “columns”, new collagen is formed creating healthy, unaffected tissue that is free of imperfections such as dark spots and sun damage. The new collagen also firms and plumps the skin offering a mild skin tighten effect. The new collagen also adds volume; smoothing out depressed areas of skin such as scars and stretch marks.
Fraxel laser treatments are effective only when performed in a series of sessions because each session treats 20 to 25 percent of the skin. Typically, 4 or 5 sessions, spaced 2-4 weeks apart are needed to achieve the desired result. Over the course of two or three months, new collagen begins to form, creating healthy, flawless and radiant skin.
In Pittsburgh, Fraxel Dual laser treatments are performed in our Shadyside, PA, Mt. Lebanon, PA and Wexford, PA locations.

FAQ's: Fraxel Laser Treatments
During a Fraxel treatment, the laser creates tiny, microscopic channels or wounds in the skin. As the body heals these small wounds, the skin contracts and tightens the surrounding tissue. Additionally, the body creates new, healthy collagen during the healing process – leaving behind tighter, firmer skin.
How are Fraxel laser treatments performed?
First, a topical anesthetic is applied to the skin approximately 60 minutes before the Fraxel laser session. The anesthetic is removed prior to the treatment. Using a “smart scanning” hand piece to ensure consistency, the laser energy is delivered to the skin; penetrating deep into the dermis where the microscopic channels are created and triggering the body’s healing process and collagen production. Each treatment session may take as little as 20 minutes or up to 45 minutes to perform (depending on the area of the body being treated).
Due to the topical anesthetic and the cool air applied during treatment, most people find the Fraxel laser skin resurfacing session to be comfortable. When asked, patients describe the feeling as a “prickling” sensation. An oral sedative may be offered to clients with sensitive skin and find the “prickling” sensation uncomfortable.
What type of side effects can I expect from a Fraxel treatment?
The most commonly reported side effects from Fraxel laser treatments include a mild “sun burn” lasting a day or two after treatment and mild swelling to the treatment area.
