Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatment
Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing treatments for the face improves aging skin, hyperpigmentation and acne scarring by stimulating the production of healthy, new skin. The Fraxel laser uses a unique technology that creates microscopic channels deep beneath the surface of the skin. As the face begins to heal, the channels with healthy skin, imperfections like brown spots, wrinkles and scar tissue are replaced with smooth, toned and more youthful looking skin.
Typically, Fraxel laser resurfacing treatments are performed in a series of four or five sessions, spaced two to four weeks apart because a Fraxel laser skin resurfacing treatment only treats 20 to 25 percent of the skin. Once the Fraxel treatment sessions are complete, the skin continues to heal itself, revealing bright, even toned and textured skin.
FAQ's: Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing for the Face
How is Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing different from other skin resurfacing treatments?
Until Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing, there were only two types of laser treatments available – ablative and non-ablative.
Ablative laser treatments are effective but require a lengthy recovery. Non-ablative laser treatments involve almost no healing time, but require multiple treatments before satisfactory results are obtained.
The Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing treatment offers the same effectiveness as the ablative laser treatment, but with the speedy healing time associated with the gentler, non-ablative lasers.
How are Fraxel laser treatments performed?
A topical anesthetic is applied to the treatment area approximately 60 minutes before the Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing session. Then a blue tint, called OptiGuide Blue, is applied to the treatment area of the face. The tint increases the contrast of tiny folds in the facial skin’s surface, allowing the Fraxel hand piece to precisely read the contours of the treatment area. The procedure takes between 20 or 25 minutes for a full face. The blue tint and anesthetic ointment are washed off immediately after the treatment.
Due to the topical anesthetic and the cool air applied during treatment, most people find that a Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing session is quite comfortable. When asked, patients describe the feeling as a “prickling” sensation.
