Radiesse Injections
Radiesse, an FDA-approved dermal filler, is composed of very small, smooth calcium hydroxylapitite microspheres, which are suspended in a water-based gel. Calcium hydroxylapitite is a mineral component that occurs naturally in the bones and teeth.
In the class of cosmetic fillers, Radiesse is unique as it supplements the skin's own depleted collagen and stimulates new collagen production in and around the treated area, which encourages longer-lasting results. Within a year of an initial Radiesse injection, the body absorbs the Radiesse and leaves in its place the body's own, naturally formed collagen.
Typically, Radiesse treatments take 30 - 60 minutes, depending on the area treated. Using an ultra-fine needle, the dermal cosmetic filler is injected below the surface of the skin to add volume to the skin. Radiesse treatments are comfortable for most people as the dermal filler can be combined with lidocaine for enhanced comfort. Following Radiesse treatments, normal activities can be resumed and makeup may be applied a few hours later.
FAQ's: Radiesse
What are the side effects from Radiesse injections?
Side effects associated with Radiesse injections are common but minimal. They may include slight bleeding, pinkness, mild bruising or swelling near the Radiesse injection site. Typically, these side effects dissipate within a few days.
How many Radiesse injections are needed before the desired result is achieved?
Many people achieve the desired result after just one treatment of Radiesse. However, because Radiesse is a longer-term cosmetic filler, treatment with Radiesse is usually conservative with a follow-up visit for further refinement, if needed.
