Restylane-Perlane
Pittsburgh, PA | Columbus, OH

Restylane® and Perlane® can be used to effectively supplement or replace the hyaluronic acid that diminishes during the aging process. Both are non-animal based hyaluronic acid products that can be injected into select areas of the face to correct moderate-to-severe wrinkles and folds, offering almost immediate improvement.
The hyaluronic acid used in Restylane and Perlane is a clear gel that is biodegradable and biocompatible with the type of hyaluronic acid that occurs naturally in the body. Restylane and Perlane injections also contain the highest concentration of hyaluronic acid available in a cosmetic dermal filler, allowing aesthetic improvement to last up to six months.

Perlane and Restylane Injections
Restylane and Perlane are primarily the same product, however the hyalulronic acid gel particles in Perlane are larger than those found in Restylane. Both products are equally effective but have different applications.
Restylane is used for more superficial facial wrinkles and folds, frown lines, forehead lines and lip enhancement. Your service provider will recommend the product that is best suited to your facial enhancement needs.
Restylane injections are very effective in improving the appearance of:
- Marionette lines
- Lip line crevices (smoker's lines)
- Forehead lines
- Frown lines
- Moderate facial wrinkles
- Lips
Perlane, which is Restylane’s sister product, received FDA-approval in 2007. Perlane's larger gel particles of hyaluronic acid make it an ideal dermal cosmetic filler for larger facial folds and deeper wrinkles as well as for adding volume and contouring to the face.
Perlane injections are very effective in improving the appearance of:
- Nasiolabial folds
- Deep furrows and wrinkles
- Cheek depressions
- Hollows under the eyes
- Chin augmentation
- Softening scarring and redefining the border of the lips
Typically Perlane and Restylane injections should to be repeated two or three times a year, or about every five or six months. However, recent clinical trials have shown that a Restylane injection treatment actually encourages the body to produce more collagen, requiring fewer Restylane injections over time and less hyaluronic acid during subsequent treatments.
FAQ's: Restylane-Perlane Treatment
How is Restylane and Perlane different than other hyaluronic acid-based products?
Unlike some forms of hyaluronic acid, Restylane and Perlane are free of animal proteins, limiting the risks of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reactions. Restylane and Perlane are made of non-animal-based hyaluronic acid called NASHA or Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid. NASHA is biodegradable and fully biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid.
What are the side effects from Restylane and Perlane?
The side effects from Restylane and Perlane are minimal. A small percentage of people may experience slight redness or swelling that can last a few days or longer.
