Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I am a candidate for a BOTOX® treatment?
Anyone who has been diagnosed with hyperhidrosis may benefit from BOTOX® treatments.
What is a BOTOX® underarm treatment like?
The treatment is very simple. A small volume of BOTOX® solution is injected through a very fine gauge needle into the affected area. Discomfort is minimal during treatment. Depending on the severity of your condition, multiple injections may be needed.
Are there any side effects from treatment?
Side effects may include mild bruising or slight swelling at the injection site. In very rare cases, patients have reported other temporary side effects such as non-underarm sweating, headache, fever, neck or back pain, itching and flu-like symptoms.
What should I expect after a BOTOX® treatment?
Within two to four weeks of your initial treatment, you’ll notice a significant reduction in underarm sweating. There is a possibility that some sweat glands may be missed during your treatment. If this occurs, you may experience sweating from the untreated areas and a touch-up treatment may be needed.
How long does a BOTOX® Treatment last?
Results vary from person to person depending on the severity of your condition. Typically, BOTOX® injections to treat hyperhidrosis will need to be repeated every four to six months.
What if I decide to stop having BOTOX® treatments?
If you decide to discontinue treatment, the symptoms will gradually return over time. BOTOX® is not a cure for hyperhidrosis. It can only provide temporarily relief.
Are there any longer-lasting options available?
At this time the only long-lasting alternative is a surgical treatment in which the sweat glands are removed via a small cannula, similar to the removal of fat cells during liposuction. This treatment, which takes less than an hour, offers a permanent reduction in sweat production and is performed by a physician.
