Frequently Asked Questions
How does the laser remove hair?
The laser emits a beam of light that is attracted to the pigment or melanin in the hair follicle. The light energy disables the growth of the follicles, resulting in quick and effective hair removal.
What does a laser hair removal treatment feel like?
Most of our clients undergo the treatment without discomfort. A topical desensitizing gel, however, is available for highly sensitive individuals or sensitive areas of the body.
What happens to the skin after a laser treatment?
Following a treatment, skin will appear slightly red in color. The redness gradually subsides within a few hours.
How many laser treatments will I need?
The number of treatments will vary, depending on the individual hair characteristics and the area treated. Most people will achieve optimal hair clearance after four to six treatments.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
The FDA has approved the term “Permanent Hair Reduction” when referring to laser hair removal. Based on our experience, most treated hair will not re-grow after treatment. However, each individual is different and will respond differently to treatment.
What should I expect after a laser treatment?
After your initial treatment, you should experience a significant reduction in hair growth in the treated area. However, it may take up to two weeks or longer for the treated hair to push its way to the surface and fall out. Subsequent visits should be scheduled four to eight weeks apart to allow time for hair follicles to enter the active growth cycle.
Can I be treated if I my hair color is light?
Since the laser is attracted to the pigment in the hair follicle, red, blond and gray hair is more difficult and sometimes impossible to treat. If your hair is lighter in color, we will determine during a free demonstration if your hair will respond to laser hair removal.
What if my skin is sun tanned?
Darker complexions can now be treated with our new Apogee lasers; however, we don’t recommend sun exposure while having your series of treatments. Changes in skin color during treatment can affect the results and increase the chance of discoloration to the area.
Are there any side effects from laser hair removal?
Uncommon side effects are minimal and will be discussed during your free demonstration. Typically, your skin will appear pinkish following treatment. This will dissipate in a few minutes to a few hours. In some cases, slight blistering may occur in the treated area. This blistering usually diminishes in a day or two.
