Photoderm® Skin Correction

Camouflage creams are becoming obsolete with the introduction of PhotoDerm® Skin Correction. This innovative technology uses patented Intense Pulse Light (IPL) to simultaneously fade age spots, sun spots, freckles, hyperpigmentation, birthmarks and vascular skin conditions such as broken capillaries, port wine stains and rosacea (facial and neck flushing).

During a PhotoDerm treatment, specific settings are selected for each patient and for the skin condition to be treated. A handheld medical device is used to deliver a series of gentle pulses of light to the skin. The laser energy bypasses the epidermis and is absorbed by the pigment and vascular irregularities in the dermal layer of the skin.

Depending on the condition treated, a series of five or more treatments may be recommended at three to four week intervals. Microdermabrasion treatments are usually performed between PhotoDerm treatments for enhanced results.

When individuals experience hyperpigmentation or vascular conditions on their face, neck or chest, FotoFacial Skin Rejuvenation may be recommended. During a FotoFacial treatment, rather than treating a small area of skin as we do with PhotoDerm Skin Correction, the entire area is treated, offering individuals more uniform skin correction and an overall clearer, more radiant complexion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who should consider Photoderm® Skin Correction?
Photoderm® Skin Correction can be performed on anyone interested in fading age spots, sun spots, freckles, hyperpigmentation, birthmarks and other vascular skin conditions such as broken capillaries, port wine stains and rosacea (facial and neck flushing). The procedure can be performed on all areas of the body, however the most common areas are the face, neck, back of hands, chest and shoulders.

How many Photoderm® treatments will I need?
The number of treatments depends upon the condition, severity and the area being treated. Generally, two to five treatments every three to four weeks will produce the desired results.

What can I expect during a Photoderm® treatment?
Photoderm® is a safe, gentle and non-invasive treatment. During treatment, your nurse will use a computer generated hand piece to deliver gentle light energy to the skin. The procedure may last 15 - 30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area. The procedure is relatively painless, some people describe the sensation to be like to snap of a rubber band on the skin as the pulses of energy are delivered through the hand piece. People with sensitive skin may prefer to use a topical anesthetic cream to minimize any discomfort.

Immediately following the treatment, the skin may appear red and flushed and small capillaries may appear more visible and brown spots may appear darker. These conditions will gradually fade within a few hours and in some cases a few days following treatment.

How long will it take to recover from Photoderm®?
Photoderm® is a non-invasive, gentle procedure with virtually no down time. Most people are able to return to work, apply make-up and resume most activities immediately following treatment.

What can I expect after the Photoderm® treatment?
Some people may experience redness at the targeted site that dissipates within a few hours and in some cases a few days following treatment. Some pigmented areas will appear darker, followed by fading. Treated skin will feel smoother, fine wrinkles and pores are less noticeable and sun spots and uneven pigmentation will fade.

Two to three days after your first treatment, you will notice a more uniform skin color. However, the improvement is gradual and will be more visible with each treatment.

What type of aftercare does Photoderm® require?
There is minimal care following a PhotodermŪ treatment. You may be given some skin care products and instructions on how to use them. These products will help minimize redness and inflammation and help to speed the healing process. The treated area will be sensitive to ultra-violet light and will need to be shaded from direct sun exposure until it has fully healed.
