How is Thermage™ CPT System different than Thermage®?
The newer Thermage CPT System volumetrically heats the deep layers of the skin, while cooling the epidermis to non-invasively smooth, tighten and contour skin in a single treatment. This proprietary CPT, or Comfort Pulse Technology, allows for the delivery of more therapeutic heat energy more comfortably than in prior systems, offering patients better results.
Body by Thermage CPT at The Skin Center is performed with a larger 16 centimeter tip for more evenly distributed skin tightening energy, resulting in maximum skin tightening and body contouring in half the time of the standard treatment.
What can I expect the day of the treatment?
Prior to your Body by Thermage CPT treatment, your Thermage specialist will discuss your treatment in detail. A mild oral sedative may be administered before your session to help ensure the experience is pleasant and optimal results are achieved. With this in mind, you may need to arrange for transportation home. A topical gel anesthetic will be applied to the area 30 minutes prior to your treatment for enhanced comfort.
During your treatment, you may experience tolerable sensations of warmth, followed by a cool spritzing that is delivered by the unit's hand piece before, during and after the treatment tip makes contact with your skin. You will be completely aware during your visit and can converse casually with your Thermage specialist. The treatment generally takes 30 to 90 minutes, depending on the size of the area treated.
Following the treatment, most individuals return to their regular daily activities once the effect of the sedative diminishes. Some may experience mild to moderate skin flushing, which usually subsides within an hour. Most individuals feel a slight aching along the treated area that doesn't necessitate any type of pain medication. There is no special care needed after treatment, but an effective sunscreen is recommended to prolong the result.
What kind of result can I expect and how long will the results last?
The degree of skin tightening varies from person to person. Your age, skin condition and degree of skin laxity will determine the outcome. Some of our clients have seen improvement within two months with continued improvement over four to six months.
To date, some studies indicate that improvement lasts up to two years; other studies show that thermal collagen changes can last several years depending on the rate of the aging process. It is important to keep in mind that this treatment does not stop the aging process. Gravity will continue to take its toll on your skin, causing natural skin laxity over time.
Who are the best candidates for Body by Thermage™ CPT?
The best candidates for Body by Thermage CPT are non-overweight individuals with slight or moderate loose skin on their upper arms, abdomen, or inner or outer thighs. Also men and woment with crepe-like skin on their hands and knees, as well as those experiencing cellulite. These individuals are in their late 30s, 40s or 50s and are experiencing loose or sagging skin as a result of weight loss, pregnancy or collagen breakdown as a result of sun damage over the years. These individuals have realistic expectations and understand that they will see varying degrees of improvement gradually.
Individuals with excessive skin laxity or those who would like to see quicker results may want to consider a cosmetic surgery procedure at The Skin Center. Depending on individual concerns, an Abdominoplasty procedure, or Tummy Tuck, or a SmartLipo™ laser procedure at The Skin Center may be a more suitable option that offers more immediate improvement and longer lasting results.
