Is Radiesse the Right Filler for Your Needs?

The advancement of dermal fillers in the world of aesthetic medicine has had a profound impact on how we approach aging. With various products now available, it is easy to lean only in one direction. Usually, that is toward the products that may have nothing more than consistent or innovative marketing. Radiesse is one of the lesser-known dermal fillers that we use in our Pennsylvania and Columbus, OH offices and one that we want to put into the limelight here.

What Is Radiesse Dermal Filler And How Does It Work?

Radiesse is not your average filler. It does not follow suit in the use of hyaluronic acid to plump lines and restore volume by binding to water molecules beneath the skin. Instead, Radiesse adds immediate structure and volume where aging has degraded facial contours. The way it does this is by inserting microspheres, or tiny particles, of Calcium Hydroxyapatite (CaHA) beneath the skin. These microspheres are literally microscopic and they are contained in a gel-based carrier of sodium carboxymethylcellulose. Together, the two substances offer powerful support to the skin.

  • The sodium carboxymethylcellulose in Radiesse can be immediately sculpted to lift and contour areas of the face. The gel gets metabolized by the body over about 4 months.
  • The Calcium Hydroxyapatite microspheres act as a mechanical support matrix beneath the skin for up to 18 months. Before they degrade, these microspheres provoke an immune response that sends increased amounts of collagen protein to the area treated for internal rejuvenation.

The volumizing and lifting effects of Radiesse make this filler a great choice for refreshing the face, neck, and hands. It is frequently used to restore volume to the temples and cheek area and can also be injected into the jawline to refine sharpness and shape. Radiesse is a more viscous filler that provides a beautiful lift without degrading elasticity.
