At-Home Tips for Thinning Hair

Home remedies for thinning hair

You can always try special shampoo or even a prescription medication such as spironolactone, a medicine to help people who have thinning hair because of their hormones. You can also try:

• Foods high in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, such as fish, and foods high in biotin, such as nuts and lentils. Foods such as spinach, eggs, oysters, oatmeal, sweet potatoes, halibut, poultry, yogurt, and cinnamon also have the nutrients needed for healthy hair.

• If you don’t like any of those foods (or you have a hard time eating oysters and oatmeal all the time), you can try supplements (you should always check with your doctor first to make sure any supplements you are considering won’t interfere with your other medications).

• A scalp massage, which is free, easy to do, and feels pretty good as well. When you wash your hair, simply apply pressure to give your scalp a nice massage and encourage blood to flow.

• Aloe vera. Take about 2 teaspoons of gel directly from a leaf and massage it into the scalp for about 5 minutes. Leave it in for about 25 minutes, then rinse out with warm water – do this twice a week.

• Green tea. Brew a cup and let it cool, then massage the tea through your scalp. Leave it on for an hour and then rinse out, one to two times a week.
