Why I Chose Eyelid Surgery

Blepharoplasty BeforeIn Pittsburgh, eyelid surgery has become a more highly sought procedure lately. Is it right for you? Maybe to know the answer about the appropriateness of blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery to eliminate bags under the eyes) ask yourself this:

“What do your eyes say about you?”

We’ve all heard the phrases… “My Irish eyes are smiling,” “An eye for an eye,” and we’ve definitely heard that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” Our eyes truly say so many things about us—they are a gateway to our soul, and sometimes they just give us away. So, what do YOURS say?

Mine? Well, mostly they say that I’m tired, and haven’t had enough sleep.

I have always had bags under my eyes, puffy eyes or what I thought were dark circles under my eyes. Even at a young age—but lately, they seemed to be getting worse. In the beginning I tried every product under the sun to cover them. When that didn’t work, I moved onto creams, lotions and serums to eradicate those pesky puffy eyes, yet day after day, they just returned.

Whether it’s in the mirror in the morning, or at the yoga studio, I felt the eyes looking back at me just were not reflective of me, or how I was feeling that day, so when I began researching treatment options for dark circles, or under eye bags, I found I was even more confused. Did I need surgery for my eyes? Or were there non-surgical eye treatments available for me?eyeQ eye lift logo

Certainly, I discovered that different factors do affect my eyes, like depending on if I’ve had a date night out with hubby, or if I pulled an all-nighter to finish the latest best selling novel, but even if I just had some great Chinese food—they always gave me away.

Under-eye bags? Dark circles? Blame genetics!

What I learned after a personal consultation with Dr. Brandy is that while external factors like lack of sleep, too much alcohol and salty food do affect our eyes, the puffiness and dark circles are genetic, and as I age, the bags under my eyes would only become more pronounced. (Thanks Dad!)

Meeting with Doctor Brandy was comfortable and easy. With over 30 years of surgical experience in Pittsburgh, eyelid surgery is one of his favorite procedures. Having done thousands of facial and body procedures, I knew that I could trust my care to Dr. Brandy and his surgical team. I’m having the procedure done in a few weeks, and believe me, every time I look in the mirror, I am getting more and more excited to never see those pesky, puffy eyes again! And yes, I’m always on a quest to get more sleep. Maybe I’ll work on that too!
