The Rise of the “American” Butt Lift
The Brazilian Butt Lift needs a new name: The American Butt Lift. Lately, it’s Americans who are crazy about elevating their posterior image. They are being photographed from every conceivable angle. They are being rapped about and sung about. And after the recent media frenzy surround Kim Kardashian’s notably excessive derriere, one thing is clear and trending: Americans like big, rounded, lifted butts.
According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), the Brazilian Butt Lift, along with buttock implants, was the fastest-growing plastic surgery last year, with more than 11,000 procedures, up 58 percent from 2012.
Thanks to celebrities like Kim, JLo and Beyoncé, Americans of all ethnic groups have become somewhat obsessed with voluptuous booties, padded undergarments and the Brazilian Butt Lift! And board-certified cosmetic surgeon, Dominic A. Brandy, MD knew it—nearly 3 years ago. As mentioned in The Skin Center Medical Spa’s 2012 Predictions Blog, Dr. Brandy projected this to be a growing trend:
“Dr. Brandy sees Natural Buttock Augmentation through fat transfer as a growing trend among people wanting to restore a more curvaceous shape. “Natural Buttock Augmentation, also known as the Brazilian Butt Lift, is growing in popularity in large part due to the more curvaceous celebrities today. Women want to enhance the buttocks and fat transfer is an ideal option to achieve the desired result.” Following liposuction surgery the fat is processed to remove excess fluids and is injected into the buttocks. Results are seen immediately and, in most cases, only one treatment is needed.”
So what happens to our perky 18-year-old buttocks over time?
Dr. Brandy, founder of The Skin Center Medical Spa with locations in Pittsburgh and Columbus, explains. “As women age, the buttocks muscles dramatically waste away. An average woman will lose 1/2 pound to 1 pound of muscle per year. As that happens, the butt becomes very flat and saggy while the waist becomes very full. With Re-LIPO-sition™ we restore the hourglass shape—making the buttocks full again and the waist smaller.”
For most women, it’s not about achieving a shelf-like derriere, it’s about balance. “When performing Re-LIPO-sition to the buttocks,” says Dr. Brandy, “you really need to keep an eye on the harmonious relationship between the waist and buttocks to make sure it is aesthetically pleasing and not overdone.”
Brazilian Butt Lift and Re-LIPO-sition
- Flanks (love-handles)
- Thighs (inner and outer)
Sculpting these areas of the body with liposuction will make the buttocks appear shapelier. The fat that is removed during liposuction surgery is then purified and injected into the buttocks at varying depths, through fat transfer, resulting in a firmer, perkier and more prominent butt. We call this procedure Re-LIPO-sition because we are literally taking unwanted fat from one body area and repositioning it in another area like the breasts or buttocks—in the case of a Brazilian Butt Lift.
The best way to see if you are a candidate for this surgery is to make an appointment for a personal consultation. It’s a great idea to bring photos of your desired goal.
