The type of arm lift performed depends upon the amount of sagging skin and fat that needs to be removed from the arm to achieve the desired result. The following are types of arm lift surgery performed at The Skin Center Medical Spa:
Hidden Incision Arm Lift
The hidden incision arm lift is best for people with a mild amount of sagging skin and a small amount of fat in the upper arm area. Concealing the small incision in the underarm is welcomed by most people because it allows them to wear short sleeves without feeling self-conscious about a long, visible scar extending from armpit to elbow.
Benefits of the Hidden Incision:
- No Visible Scar in a Resting, Normal Position
- Removal of Underarm Sweat Glands
- Reduces Appearance of “Bra Bulge” (Upper Back Fat)
- Mild Lift to the Breasts
- Tones Upper Arms
Because a crescent-shaped area of skin is removed from the armpit, the upper back and the lateral breast area receive the benefit of a slight lift as well; reducing the appearance of the “bra bulge” or upper back fat. Additionally, most, if not all, of the underarm sweat glands are removed. To further enhance the skin tightening and improve the contour of the arm, SmartLipo® laser skin tightening is performed as well.
Vertical Arm Lift
For people with a larger amount of hanging skin, typically seen with dramatic weight loss, and larger deposits of underarm fat, a vertical arm lift may be recommended. With vertical brachioplasty an incision is made in the underside of the arm, extending from the armpit to the elbow. The excess skin and fat is removed, SmartLipo® laser skin tightening is performed to enhance the skin tightening and subtly contour the upper arm.
Benefits of Vertical Arm Lift:
- Dramatic Results
- Reshapes Arm from Armpit to Elbow
- Firms and Tones Upper Arm
While vertical arm lift surgery provides dramatic results, the incision is not as well concealed. Because the incision is placed on the inner arm it is not visible in most positions. However, most people are thrilled with the final result and are not bothered by the incision which usually fades to a pencil thin line.
Results from both the vertical arm lift surgery and hidden scar arm lift are immediate; continued improvement is seen over time as the incision heals and swelling diminishes.
