PRP Hair Growth Treatment Available in Pittsburgh, PA

What is PRP Hair Growth Treatment?

PRP Hair Growth Treatment is a non-surgical option to help restore loss of hair and thicken existing hair. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections are concentrated with specialized proteins and growth factors that are commonly used to help the body recover from injuries. PRP hair therapy uses the body’s own blood platelets to promote new hair growth in balding or receding areas where existing hair follicles are present. This treatment increases hair count and hair thickness and speeds up the growth phase of the hair cycle without surgery or downtime. This treatment is performed at The Skin Center in Pittsburgh, PA.

Treatment Information

PRP treatment for hair loss is a three-step process in which a person’s blood is drawn, processed, and then injected into targeted areas of the scalp where current hair follicles exist. An expert RN injector begins the treatment by drawing a small collection of blood from the patient’s arm. Next, the blood is transferred to a centrifuge and spun down into three separate layers: Platelet Poor Plasma, Platelet Rich Plasma, and red blood cells. The Platelet Rich Plasma is then extracted and prepared for injection into the areas of hair loss to stimulate hair growth.

The injection process is the quickest part of the treatment. Injections are made across the scalp, approximately half an inch apart in the areas of thinning hair. PRP is directly injected into the patient’s hair follicles that need increased hair growth.

Platelet Poor Plasma, Take Home Treatment Information

For added growth benefits, patients are provided a full supply of the body’s own Platelet Poor Plasma (PPP) and a micro roller to roll into the skin and increase results. This process can be done at home weekly until the PPP supply is used up.

Is there pain associated with PRP Hair Growth Treatment?

The scalp is numbed before the injections, thereby eliminating unwanted pain or discomfort during the treatment. There is no downtime associated with this treatment. Although mild soreness may be experienced in the injection areas, you will be able to return to normal activities immediately after the treatment.

Are there any side effects associated with PRP Hair Treatment?

Side effects of this treatment are minimal. PRP therapy for hair loss involves using the body’s own blood platelets, which reduces the chance of any adverse reactions to the PRP injections. However, it is possible to experience pain, soreness, swelling, or bleeding at or around each injection site.

Who is a good candidate for PRP Hair Growth Treatment?

The best candidate for PRP Hair Growth Treatment is someone experiencing mild hair loss or thinning in areas with existent hair follicles. PRP injections have the power to promote hair growth only when hair follicles are present.

How many PRP Hair Growth Treatments are needed to see results?

Hair growth and thickness results will not be immediate but will improve with time. Best results are seen with multiple PRP treatments done 8 to 12 weeks apart for a full year, and then once a year for maintenance. After each individual treatment, take-home treatments with PPP and a micro roller will help increase hair growth and thickness.
