The Lutronic ULTRA™ Laser is a quick and virtually painless treatment to address sun damage, pigmentation, texture and tone. As a non-ablative, thulium laser, it helps rebuild healthy, new skin across all areas of the body without damaging the top layers of the skin. Even still, it is able to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin for maximum results. This is one of the reasons why it’s considered so gentle and requires little downtime. You’ll notice that as new skin cells are produced, your skin will appear brighter, tighter and smoother for an overall more youthful appearance.

Over the course of a 20-minute treatment, you will experience a warm feeling, which might result in a flushed look overnight (that resolves itself the next day). What’s recovery like?
There is minimal downtime associated with the Lutronic ULTRA™ resurfacing laser. Downtime ranges from a few hours of mild redness like a sunburn to a few days of flushed skin. Regardless, you can return to normal activity and apply makeup 24 hours after treatment.
How many Lutronic ULTRA™ Laser treatments will I need?
Results are noticeable after just one treatment of the Lutronic ULTRA™. The number of treatments needed depends on the specific skin goals that the patient is looking to achieve. Many find that 3+ sessions per year can help preserve the treatment results.
Am I a good candidate for Lutronic ULTRA™?

Common Misconceptions of Lutronic ULTRA
You'll need multiple treatments.
Most treatments only take one session. The short recovery time also means patients can typically resume their normal activities right away.
Lutronic Ultra only works on certain complexions.
This therapy has been demonstrated to produce benefits across a range of skin types.
You can't get Lutronic Ultra while I'm on acne medication.
You may still be a candidate for non-ablative laser treatment, but it depends on which medication you take.
All laser treatment takes a long time to heal because it removes so much skin tissue.
Not every laser resurfacing treatment is the same. Unlike ablative alternatives, non-ablative resurfacing doesn't remove dermal tissue, so recovery times are minimal.
Contraindications of Lutronic Ultra
Non-ablative laser skin resurfacing works well for many people, but some aren't good candidates. You should avoid this type of treatment if you currently suffer from:
- An active bacterial or fungal infection
- Active psoriasis
- Active lichen planus
- Active neoplastic disease
Other contraindications for laser resurfacing include:
- Having taken Amnesteem/isotretinoin — an acne medication — within the past 12 months
- Having an autoimmune disease or a weak immune system
- Having a connective tissue disease
- Having darker or extremely tanned skin
- Having a history of keloid scars
- Having a history of ectropion, or outward-facing eyelid
- Being pregnant or currently breastfeeding
You might not be a good candidate for laser resurfacing if you've already received similar procedures. Talk to your doctor about your medical history to learn whether this procedure is right for you.
Risks and Side Effects of Lutronic Ultra
Lutronic Ultra is designed to be a minimal-risk procedure. However, all laser treatments carry some risk of:
- Redness
- Itching, swelling, or pain
- Bacterial, viral, or fungal infections, including flareups of already-present herpes virus
- Scarring
- Permanent skin color changes, particularly in people with darker skin tones

What Makes Lutronic Ultra Difference From Alternative Treatments?
Lutronic Ultra is a non-ablative fractional laser treatment. It's less intense than ablative laser treatments, so recovery times are usually shorter.
This skin rejuvenation treatment doesn't require you to take medication. Some patients, however, may benefit from topical steroid creams that reduce swelling. You also don't need to make big changes to your skincare routine, although you should wear sunscreen to limit further environmental damage.
How Long Will the Results Last?
Results will appear soon after your first treatment, with full results appearing as collagen levels increase from three to six months post-treatment. In most cases, results are long-lasting. Maintenance treatment sessions will help to prolong your rejuvenation indefinitely.
