Botox Injection Treatment
Botox injections are very simple to perform and usually take less than five minutes per facial area. Using a tiny micro-needle, a minuscule amount of an FDA-approved serum containing botulinum toxin type A, is injected very precisely into select facial muscles.
Because the needle used for the Botox injection is very thin, no sedation or local anesthetic is necessary. Comfort is enhanced by applying a topical anesthetic or an ice pack a few minutes before the treatment.
Recovery after Botox Injections
Normal daily activities can be resumed immediately after Botox injections as long as an upright position is maintained. However, you should not workout for 4 to 5 hours after your treatment. External pressure should not be applied to the area treated with Botox for about four or five hours as well.
Within one or two weeks of the Botox injection, the treated facial muscles become temporarily relaxed, causing the overlying skin to lay flat and unwrinkled. The untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion, allowing normal facial expression to be unaffected.
Although results vary, most individuals can expect significant wrinkle reduction for about four months following the Botox injections. To maintain the desired wrinkle reduction effects, Botox injections can and should be repeated about every four or five months. The result tends to be longer- lasting with subsequent treatments.*
Botox Side Effects
Following a Botox treatment, some patients may experience mild bruising at the injection site, or a mild headache. These conditions are temporary and gradually subside within a day or two. In rare cases, when people do not keep their head upright, Botox may migrate and weaken nearby muscles. This may cause the eyebrow or upper eyelid to droop. This condition is temporary and corrects itself without treatment within several weeks.
Is Botox FDA-approved for cosmetic treatment?
Yes! Botox is FDA-approved to treat the fine lines surrounding the eyes – more commonly called crow’s feet and the frown lines or glabella lines between the brows, commonly called the 11’s. Botox is used to relax muscles for cosmetic purposes but it also has many medical applications and is used to treat a number of conditions including chronic migraines, excessive sweating and muscle spasticity, to mention a few.
How Much Does Botox Cost?
The cost of Botox is determined by the number of facial areas being treated and the amount of Botox needed to achieve the desired wrinkle-relaxing result. During your consultation, your provider will discuss your facial rejuvenation goals to best determine the area of treatment and associated cost. Botox Alternative Treatments
- Dermal Fillers - Dermal Fillers are injectable treatments that restore youthful volume and fullness to the face, plump deeper facial lines and folds and provide contour and definition to the face.
- Fat Transfer - Fat transfer to the face is a two-step process which involves removing fat from one area of the body and transferring it to the face.
What is Xeomin?
Available in Pittsburgh, Xeomin® Wrinkle Treatment is FDA-approved for temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate-to-severe frown lines between the eyebrows.
With age, the elasticity of the skin gradually diminishes causing expression-related creases between the eyebrows to deepen and eventually become permanent* facial lines. Xeomin temporarily improves the appearance of these facial lines for a more relaxed, refreshed appearance.
In Pittsburgh, Xeomin wrinkle treatment injections are performed at our Shadyside, PA, Wexford, PA and Mt. Lebanon, PA med spa locations.
Facial wrinkle treatments with Xeomin involve the injection of a minuscule amount of incobotulinumtoxinA, which is a botulinum toxin type A. Xeomin wrinkle treatment works by temporarily relaxing select facial muscles, limiting their ability to fully contract. After Xeomin injections, all untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion, allowing normal facial expression to remain unaffected.
Recovery After Xeomin
Following a Xeomin wrinkle treatment, normal activities can resume immediately as long as you remain in an upright position and avoid any pressure on the area for at least 4 or 5 hours.
The results of the Xeomin injections are not instant. Improvement is gradual and usually begins within 2 to 3 days, with the final result achieved in about a week. In most cases, the treated wrinkles will relax and soften, producing a younger, well-rested appearance.
Although the improvement varies with each person, the result may last 3 to 4 months or longer.
Xeomin Side Effects
Some individuals may experience mild bruising or swelling at the Xeomin injection site, or a mild headache. These conditions are temporary and will gradually subside within a day or two.
What is Dysport?
Dysport ® Wrinkle Treatment is an FDA-approved wrinkle relaxer, offering a non-surgical option for the correction of expression-related wrinkles, or dynamic wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes.
With every laugh, squint or frown, the muscles of the face contract causing the overlying skin to crease. Over time and as the elasticity in skin gradually diminishes with age, these expression creases deepen and become facial lines and wrinkles.
What is the difference between Xeomin, Dysport® and Botox®?
Based on review of clinical studies, the most notable differences between Xeomin, Dysport® and BOTOX® seem to be the following: • A faster onset of wrinkle-releasing effect is noted with Xeomin in some patients; as early as 2 - 3 days.
