Chemical Peels
Chemical Peels have been used for decades to revitalize and resurface skin. They involve applying a chemical solution to remove the damaged outer layers of skin and reveal a younger, clearer, more radiant complexion. They are commonly performed on the face, chest and hands.

Ultra-Light, Light, Medium and Deep Peels penetrate to different levels and, consequently, produce different aesthetic results. Generally, the deeper the peel penetrates, the more profound the results, but the more lengthy the recovery period.
An individual's skin type, degree of damage and personal expectations will help determine which of the following chemical peels is most appropriate.

Deep Peels
Deep Chemical Peels involve the use of a solution called Phenol, which penetrates to the deeper layers of the skin. These peels are usually a one-time procedure and produce dramatic,
long-term results. They are very effective when used to treat deep course wrinkles, severe pigmentation conditions, scarring and pre-cancerous growths.
Dr. Brandy performs deep chemical peels in our outpatient surgery center located Mt. Lebanon. A full-face phenol peel generally takes about an hour, while a phenol peel to a smaller
area on the face, such as the upper lip, may take only 10 or 15 minutes.
Deep peels may lighten dark skin tones permanently; therefore, they are not recommended for darker skinned individuals such Hispanics, East Indians, Asians and African Americans.

Medium Peels
Medium Chemical Peels, which involve the use of concentrated Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) and Jessners solution, can correct moderate skin conditions experience by individuals in their
late 30s and 40s.
At The Skin Center, Medium peels are performed by Dr. Brandy in our outpatient surgi-center, which is located in Mt. Lebanon. During your private Complimentary Skin Evaluation, Dr. Brandy may discuss
using a combination of chemical solutions for your treatment, in effect, tailoring the treatment specifically your skin condition.
No anesthesia is necessary; however a mild oral sedative is administered prior to treatment. Individuals usually feel a warm or slight burning sensation, which is quickly alleviated
with a cool fan. The full-face treatment usually takes about 15 to 20 minutes to perform. When deeper lines and wrinkles are addressed with a more concentrated solution, the treatment may last up 45 minutes.

Light Peels
Light chemical peels help remove skin discolorations such as freckles, age spots and hyperpigmentation that results from chronic sun exposure. Textural irregularities such as fine lines
and wrinkles will be less noticeable and your skin will look and feel softer, smoother and more radiant.
Light Chemical peels involve the use of nonbuffered Trichloroacetic acid (TCA), which is one of the most commonly used facial skin-peeling agents. At The Skin Center, we perform AccuPeels®
which utilize a cream formulation of TCA that offers a simpler and safer way to achieve the significant improvement that TCA offers. With the cream formulation, there is less discomfort, faster healing and a smoother, more even application.

Ultra Light (Refresher) Peel
Ultra Light Chemical Peels involve the use of either buffered Trichloraecetic Acid (TCA) or Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), which are a group of naturally occurring acids that are derived
from certain plants and fruits.
At The Skin Center, we offer Physicians' Choice Chemical Peels (PC Peels), which are designed to exfoliate the epidermis, unclog pores, and stimulate circulation to promote new collagen
formation beneath the surface. Optimal improvement in skin texture and color is obtained with multiple PC Peels performed two to three weeks apart. However, a single peel performed a week before a special event will give your complexion a healthy,
radiant glow.
PC Peels are performed by a Registered Nurse or a medical esthetician. The process usually takes 10 to 15 minutes and although some patients' faces may seem a bit pink afterwards, normal
activities may be resumed right away. Two to three days following an ultra light peel, patients may experience temporary flaking, dryness and scaling, which can be controlled with a topical emollient. No sedation or anesthesia is necessary.
